Terminator:Salvation

The fourth film in the franchise may as well be the last in the rank in terms of story.Terminator:Salvation has somewhat lost its story-telling ability unlike its predecessors. The movie is like a big budget video game.Yes,its full of action and explosions as expected from a terminator flick but lacks the emotional drama that runs the story of the genre.Bale's John Connor appears more machine than Sam Worthington's Marcus Wright who,in the movie is a machine.Only Moon Bloodgood's character puts human emotion into this robotic film. The movie's plot is just simple.I think they first considered the action sequences than the story. For all you Terminator fans, the story of the war against machines and Skynet's fight to kill John Connor, isn't portrayed well in Salvation. It leaves more questions without the answers. Not even the cameo of the original terminator can help save the storyline. As Arnold once said,"I'll be Back."Please... be back with a story and just a demolition derby movie.I give it a 5 out of 10.

Star Trek

"Space, the final frontier."These are words that are remembered by past generations and will be remembered by future generations to come.Star Trek is definitely a great prequel movie.Director J.J. Abrams has really outdone himself by giving us a great ensemble of talents, great direction, great effects and a great story.Star Trek fans and newbies will love this movie. It has a great blend of excitement, adventure, drama, action and comedy. One of my praise for the film is definitely the cast. They fit perfectly to there original counterparts.I loved seeing Leonard Nemoy as Spock. But what I love most about the movie, being a Trek Fan, is seeing the USS Enterprise take flight on her maiden voyage.Definitely one of the best films of the year.I recommend you see Star Trek.A good thrill-ride for the senses.I give it a 9 out of 10.

X-men Origins:Wolverine

I recently had the opportunity to watch a special screening of Wolverine and all I can say is "It did good."The film did great in telling the origins of one of the Marvel Universe's fatal, flawed and sometimes misunderstood anti-hero but seemed like it was done in a hurry. It is filled with a lot of sub plots that you sometimes get lost in the story. As expected,it is full of action and surprises but the fight scenes weren't what i expected.Filled with special effects and a great ensemble of talented actors. The movie didn't quite exceeded all expectations.A well crafted script and a great direction but there was some conflict between the director and the company that released the film.If you're one of the people who saw the pirated and still unfinished version, you are missing a lot.And you still haven't experience the effects put in the film.A fair movie but it still didn't beat X2 which is the best of the the series.A movie full of adamantium rage and full entertainment experience for some people.

Monsters Vs. Aliens

MvA is definitely for the kids.It showcases great animation with a touch of kiddy humor. The movie is about a group of monsters like the 50 ft woman, the missing link and the blob who must fight an invading alien. For me,the film didn't quite reach my expectations.Sure it was fun but the humor wasn't that lasting. It's full of slapstick comedy of movie monsters but at times the comedy was forgetable. And it felt like the movie was short. You never get the feeling that the movie has gone on for an hour.Yet,it is still a recommended movie. You'll enjoy B.O.B. and Insectosaurus.I give it a 6.5 out of 10.

Extra tid-bit:On the weekend of the trailer's release, the movies popularity went up 1840% at imdb.com

Knowing

I just finished watching Knowing moments ago.The movie stars Nicolas Cage and Rose Byrne. The movie is about a 50 year old "Note" filled with numbers which turned out to be dates and coordinates of all major disasters that has happened in the past five decades as well as events that hasn't happened yet. That's where the movie revolves in.Trying to figure out if the numbers were true and where it will happen.Frankly, the title fits the movie. You already know what happens next. The story is full of cliches. Some of the effects aren't that good.Still one could like the movie but it doesn't have that suspense that you'd expect from this type of movie. From the movie's trailer you could easily figure out that aliens are somewhat involved.I can't believe that the guy that brought us I,Robot and the Crow could make this C movie.I give it a 4 out of 10.

Valkyrie

I just saw the film. It's about one of the attempted assassination of Hitler.Bryan Singer did a remarkable job.The film is compelling, full of drama and suspence that will have you holding on to your seats in waiting to see what happens next. The movie takes its suspenseful effect once Stauffenberg(Tom Cruise) starts the first moves of the operation.A well crafted script and well suited directorial eyes.

Watchmen

I just recently saw Zack Snyder's adaptation of Watchmen. It is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Alan Moore(V For Vendetta and League of Extra Ordinary Gentlemen).I have to say Snyder did a great job of bringing it to life. For more than 20 years of waiting and attempting to make the movie,I can say the wait was worth it.The film follows the Dark Knight in liberating the comic book movies. It's a super hero-Anti hero film. The film showcases a perfect blend of sound, effects, action, plot and a breath-taking visuals that really brings the feel of the original graphic novel.Though Snyder didn't stick to the original story in the novel,he still brings closer feel to that story. The film brings not only effects but well talented actors.Especially Jackie Earle Haley who played Rorschach. He brought him to life.A little downside is his grunted voice whom we may compare to Christian Bale's Batman.I also loved the music.Music for that time,1985,especially "The Sound of Silence".It really matched the scene. But I didn't quite like the use of "Ride of the Valkyries" in the sequence of the Vietnam War.The movie is full of dark stories of heroes and their trials .Like Batman and Spiderman who always ask the question if what their doing hurts the ones they love or do the world really need them. The novel asks the question "Who watches the Watchmen?"The film shows us what that question meant.Who watches those we depend our lives to and are they really the right ones.Alan Moore didn't approve of making this into film saying that it will not present the right mood and purpose of the novel.Well,I can say that he should watch the Watchmen. It faithfully delivers and will be loved ny the novel fans as well as bring much curiousity to the new generation.I give it an 9 out of 10.

News on the Dark Knight Follow-up

There has been latest news about the follow-up to the Dark Knight.According to the execs, the third installment will be called Battle for Gotham. It will show the rise and fall of Gotham City,so expect a lot of action and probably an R rating. In talks to play one of the villains in the film is Johnny Depp who is rumored to play the riddle.Probably the biggest news is that Academy Award winning director James Cameron(Titanic0 will have a part in the film.He and his team will providing the CG of Heath Ledger's the Joker. There will be a small part for the joker in the third movie.Cameron was brought up because his team has reportedly perfected human CG as it was used in his upcoming film Avatar.News, news and more news and details will be coming in the next days. For me,they should probably change the title.Or maybe they will.
